During my formative years, my mother was a guiding force in my life. She was firm about the importance of discipline and responsibility. She made sure I completed my chores, such as cleaning my room and doing the dishes. She also insisted that I focus on my studies and avoid any trouble. I often felt frustrated with her strict rules and would protest, “I can’t stand this!” Mom would respond, “That’s fine, but these rules are for your own good.” Deep down, I knew she cared.
One evening, I decided to sneak out to a party and ended up getting into a minor car accident. Shaken and scared, I called my mom. Before long, she arrived, and without a word, she drove me home. The next morning, I prepared myself for a lecture. As expected, I received a serious talking-to, but it made me realize the importance of following her guidance.
Mom was 35 when she started her career as a successful businesswoman. I began my journey at a young age, working part-time jobs while still in high school. After graduating from college, I pursued a career in marketing. Like my mom in her early days, I faced numerous rejections and setbacks. There were times when I thought, “This is too hard; I should give up.”
Once, after a particularly tough project, I returned home feeling defeated and spent weeks isolating myself, reading self-help books, and trying to regain my motivation. Mom sat me down and said, “Honey, I know it’s tough, but you have to keep pushing forward.”
Now, I often work alongside my mom, and I cherish these moments. We both share a passion for our work, which stems from our deep interest in people and their stories. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She is my biggest supporter, and having that kind of support has been invaluable.
