Today, there are many exciting ways to have fun. Every day, we can do something new and interesting. A lot of our entertainment depends heavily on modern technology. Among them, flying kites is one of the most popular ones.
Kites have a long history in China. According to a legend(传说), the famous thinker Mozi created the first “wooden bird”. Later, people used bamboo to take the place of wood, and covered the bamboo frame(框架)with paper. This was the birth of the paper kite. At first, kites were mostly used by the army. They were used to send messages and test the wind. Slowly, people used them more and more for fun. By the time of the Tang Dynasty(618 - 907 CE), it became a popular toy for all people in China.
Flying kites not only links us to our history, but also gives people a way to express creativity. Every year, kite fliers from all over the world come to the Weifang International Kite Festival in Shandong Province's Weifang City. The city has been known as the “World Kite Capital” for many years. At the festival, thousands of kites fly in the sky. Some are in the shape of dragons, spaceships and even cartoon characters like TV and comic characters. Some kites can be over 200 metres long. They fly high in the sky.
