Ⅵ. 阅读表达
A Tasty Trip to Tea Mountain
文化意识 文化理解 “We'll go to Xishuangbanna,” said my host Xiao Shuai.
I didn't really know what that was. But it sounded like “banana”, so I thought it must be some boring family resort(旅游胜地), like the ones back home in the United States.
However, where my Chinese “family” took me to visit last month turned out to be a warm and bright urban area full of palm trees and tea culture.
We stayed at a hostel at the foot of Tea Mountain. Every morning, we hiked through the wet jungle, picking small green tea leaves from the trees along the way.
We travelled to the farms, where every household in the village was busy making tea, cooking tea leaves and rolling them in baskets. I had always thought that tea was just sun - dried, but this process proved that it was more complicated(复杂的).
Warehouses filled with square piles of Pu'er tea were a sight on our trip that appeared often. They were connected with manufacturing(制造业)plants where men quietly packed tea cakes into baskets. I could even hear the machines pressing and packing the tea into clean cakes.
We spent our evenings in tea houses, where I learned the art of serving tea. I began to understand the difference in taste of this drink. It took some time, like learning a new language. I could tell that the first round of tea was less strong than the second and the third seemed just right, light enough but with a clearly different taste. It's interesting to watch people sipping their baby - cups of yellowish water.
The careful process of making and drinking tea made me realize how important tea is in Chinese culture. I now understand the power of tea, which is just considered a “healthy alternative” to coffee in the USA.
