原创 人类命运共同体 Have you heard of the idea of building a community with a shared future for humans? This idea was first put forward in March 2013. 2023 marks the idea's 10th anniversary.
Building a community with a shared future for humans is to connect the prospects and destinies (命运) of every nation and country closely together, share weal and woe (荣辱与共), and turn planet Earth into a harmonious (和谐的) family. It is “not to replace one system or civilization (文明) with another”. Instead, it means that countries come together for shared interests, shared rights and shared responsibilities (责任) in global affairs (事务), even with their differences in social systems, cultures, histories, levels of development and more.
The idea of a community with a shared future is a key part of traditional Chinese culture. Ancient Chinese people valued the idea that “all under heaven (天) are of one family” and “harmony is prized”. For example, Confucius once said, “Within the four seas all men are brothers.” which shows the idea that the world is one family.
The idea of building a community with a shared future for humans has been written into the Constitution of the Communist Party of China(中国共产党章程) and the Constitution of the country. More than that, it has been accepted by more and more countries and international organizations. The United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have included it in their documents(文件).
Jack Midgley, head of the global consultancy firm(咨询公司) Midgley & Co., said building a shared future is “a revolutionary(革命性的) idea about world affairs”. There is a very big and important difference between the idea of a shared future and the American idea of building a future through competition. The Chinese idea is more about understanding and building shared institution(制度), he told Xinhua.
