China sent up its Shenzhou Ⅸ manned spacecraft on June 16, 2012 with three astronauts. And Liu Yang became China's first female astronaut to travel into space.

Born in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, Liu went to study in a military flying school in Changchun after graduating from high school in 1997 and later became a pilot.
One of Liu's high school classmates said Liu was not talkative but she was very friendly to other classmates. She worked very hard in her studies and always ranked in the top 10 of the class. Apart from school lessons, Liu also developed after - class hobbies. She played volleyball very well.
