Parents can't help but love and care for their children. Now studies give them another good reason to do so. According to statistics (统计数据), children who are brought up in an environment where they receive lots of love and affection seem to be happier and do better as adults.
The results are based on a study which followed participants from childhood into adulthood. Experts kept track of the quality of the interactions between mothers and their eight - month - old babies, as well as the affection each mother gave her child from negative to positive.
Years later the children who had been adults were evaluated (评价) for various specific issues including anxiety, hostility (敌意) and general level of sadness. The study shows the anxiety level of the grown - up babies who had loving mothers was seven per cent lower than those whose mothers showed little love, three per cent lower in hostility and five per cent lower in sadness.
Experts also believe that the first three years of a child's life are most critical for the development of emotion. In fact, they say that's the period when a child learns to give and receive love. If they receive enough love from their parents, they'll react the same way back when they grow up.
