One day I was shopping at a convenience store and a homeless man walked towards people waiting at the checkout counter. He said to the man in front of me, "I don't want to steal here. So would you please buy me some food?"
The man in front of me pretended not to hear him as if he were not there. I supposed he would ask me next, but he didn't. So I asked him, "Can I buy you some food?" He accepted my offer happily. The man, then, got a bag and put several puddings into the bag.
When it came to my turn to be counted, the cashier looked at me in surprise and added the homeless man's puddings to my order. After I was through, the man was walking around the store; he said he also wanted some drinks. The cashier seemed to be keeping a close eye on him. Since I didn't want him to steal anything either, I told the cashier I'd also pay for his drinks. Finally, we both left the store, but he stood right outside holding the puddings and talking to himself.
This man's health situation made me anxious. Perhaps, it was his mental disorder that led him to be homeless. I also thought about the doubtful eye the cashier kept on him. I hope to run into him again someday... Maybe we can have lunch together.
