Some children are learning what it is like to do business of their own at Children’s Museum in Pasadena, California. The children sell their unwanted toys, clothes and other used things in the flea market (跳蚤市场). Some of the young business owners sell things that they have made. As Christopher Cruise, headmaster of a primary school, tells us, the children obtain valuable experience and even make some money.
Nine - year - old Tyler Ruste, a young business owner, is working hard. She is hoping to make money in the flea market. Twice a year, young people set up tables and take out old toys, clothes, sports shoes and other things to sell on the grounds of the museum in Pasadena.
The museum started the flea market seven years ago. One museum official said the idea was to provide children with business experience. “It’s teaching them about money and dealing with money,” she said.
But there are other things to learn. Tyler’s elder sister, Alyssa, sells sweets that take days to make. “Well, patience is one of the things you should learn from experience because sometimes buyers don’t always buy all your things.”
The young businessmen say they get to decide what to sell and at what price. They also get to keep all the money they received from their sales.
Many parents say they are happy if their children make a little money. But they also hope the boys and girls will learn communication skills and become more confident about themselves as they do business.
