短文C
It is widely and commonly agreed that we choose friends just because of who they are. But the fact is that we like to make friends with them just because of the way they support who we are.
When people are asked "What is important in your life?", many people's first response will be friendship. While people value and stress the importance of friendship, the power of friendship is still difficult to understand. Like romantic love, friendship is considered to be magic and perhaps "just happens". A recent research shows that friendship itself is much more complex than commonly thought.
Years ago a group of researchers carried out a study. They noticed the friendships in a single two-storey flat building. People there tended to become friends with the neighbours on their respective (各自的) floors. It is nearly impossible for someone on the first floor to build a friendship with someone on the second one. As the study shows, friends are often those who we meet regularly. Therefore, we are more likely to make friends with our workmates, classmates, and people we frequently come across at the gym.
It's no surprise that friendship forms between those who interact with one another. Yet the process is more complex: why do we like chatting with one person in our yoga class but not another? The answer might seem very obvious – our friend-in-the-making likes to go to the concert with us or shares our interest in gardening. They laugh at our jokes, and we laugh at theirs.
8. According to paragraph 2, the research shows that friendship is ______.
A. more complex than expected
B. as mysterious as romantic love
C. not easy to understand
D. as unusual as romantic love
9. According to the study mentioned in the passage, we may NOT make friends with ______.
A. workmates who work in the same place with us
B. neighbours who live on the same floor with us
C. students who join the same club with us
D. students who wear the same coat as us
10. From the last paragraph, we can come to a conclusion that sometimes we make friends with somebody because ______.
A. we take the same class
B. we have something in common
C. we go to the same gym
D. we can chat with each other happily
