The Invention of the Telephone
Since the telephone was invented, telecommunication network has taken an continuous (持续的) development. We should remember a person forever — Alexander Graham Bell.
Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born (苏格兰裔) American inventor. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1847. His mother was almost cannot hear anything, and his father taught elocution (a kind of lesson that someone is taught to speak clearly) to deaf, influencing Alexander's career choice as teacher of deaf in America.
Bell's family moved to Canada in 1870 and Bell moved to the USA in 1871. For several years he taught deaf-mutes in Boston and some other places. But at the same time he was developing a way to use electricity to send the sounds of talking through a wire. He worked hard in his workshop with his helper Tomas A. Watson. Finally, he said these famous words slowly on the telephone, "Mr. Watson — come here — I want to see you." On March 7, 1876, it's said that Bell raced to the patent (专利) office to be the first to secure the rights to the one of the most valuable patents in history. Then Bell continued to refine (改进) the telephone to make it suitable for public exhibition (展览).
The telephone developed quickly in the USA over the next few years. The Bell Telephone Company started in 1877. In 1915, Bell made the first transcontinental (横贯大陆的) phone call to Watson from New York to San Francisco. Moreover, Bell was a kind man, he spent much of his money and time during the rest of his life helping deaf-mutes. In 1922 he died in Canada.
