B
When she was in middle school, Liz King decided to be a hairdresser. Liz always knew she wanted to be a hairdresser, but her mom didn't want her to go to a vocational high school, because most of the graduates of her local high school go on to four-year colleges.
At the end of 8th grade, Liz told her mom she wanted to study cosmetology (美容).
"I thought that if she went to a vocational school, she would miss out on a profession (职业) where she could make more money," her mom, Chapman, says.
But Liz begged (哀求) her mom to let her go to study cosmetology. Finally, her mom agreed—under one condition: if she could do the college prep (预备) classes. Liz did all the college prep classes, but said there was no way she was going to college, because she was not self-motivated (自我激励的) in study. But she was motivated about her career in cosmetology.
Liz graduated in 2022. By then, she had completed enough training hours in school to take the exam for her cosmetology license. She took the test after she finished her high school classes and had her license by the time she walked across the stage to get her diploma.
