The Golden Gate Bridge is not golden
金门大桥并不是金色的
When people think about California, they often think of the Golden Gate Bridge. The state's landmark (地标) links the city of San Francisco to Marin County. Although the bridge has "golden" in its name, it's not golden in colour but painted a reddish orange. The bright colour can be seen through the fog over the bay.
The main span of the bridge is 1,280 metres. When it was completed in 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge (悬索桥) in the world. It held that record until 1964. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge. In this type of bridge, the roadway is hung from steel cables (钢索). The main cables of the Golden Gate Bridge hang from two towers at a height of 227 metres. People can drive, bike or walk across the bridge.
American engineer Joseph Strauss was in charge of building the bridge. He began making plans for the bridge in 1921, but the project didn't begin until years later. At first, some people didn't think the bridge should be built. Photographer Ansel Adams, for example, thought it would ruin the view.
The building of the bridge took four years. It was not an easy job. Workers had to get rid of rock under deep water to plant the earthquake-proof (防震的) towers. They also had to work on cables high above the water. Strauss used a safety net to protect their lives.
The Golden Gate Bridge opened on 27 May 1937.

2. B 根据画线部分上文中的“When it was completed in 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.”可知,当它在 1937 年建成时,它是世界上最长的悬索桥。因此画线部分 that record 是指“世界上最长的悬索桥”这一纪录。故选 B。
