Tiger Leaping Gorge
虎跳峡
60 kilometres north of Lijiang, Yunnan, there is a valley called Tiger Leaping Gorge. It is big, deep, and world-famous! It's 23 kilometres long, and the narrowest part is only about 30 metres wide. Can you imagine that? The water in the valley flows fast, about 1,800 cubic metres(立方米) per second. The mountains around it reach a height difference of 3,900 metres!
Tiger Leaping Gorge has three parts: Upper, Middle, and Lower. In the Upper part of the gorge, the river is narrow. There's a big rock in the middle, about 13 metres high. People said a tiger once jumped across to the other side by using that rock. So they named it Tiger Leaping Rock. The water crashes against the rock, making a lot of noise. In the Middle part of the gorge, there are a lot of rocks in the river. The water drops over 100 metres in a short distance. It looks like a dragon moving through a narrow path. There are 18 dangerous spots(地点) where the water crashes against the shore(岸). People call them "Starry Sky". It's so cool! In the Lower part of the gorge, the river is calmer. The dangerous and scary parts are gone, and it has become more beautiful. You can see fields and rivers stretching out as far as the eye can see. It's so fun and pretty!

答案:
1. A 根据第一段中的“It's 23 kilometres long, and the narrowest part is only about 30 metres wide.”可知,虎跳峡长 23 千米。故选 A。
2. D 根据第二段中的“In the Upper part of the gorge, the river is narrow.”可知,在虎跳峡上部,水流是狭窄的。故选 D。
3. B 根据画线词上文中的“People said a tiger once jumped across to the other side by using that rock.”可知,有只老虎用那个岩石从一边跳到另外一边;画线词所在句是说,因此他们将它命名为虎跳岩。因此画线词 it 指代的是上文中出现的 rock。故选 B。
4. B 根据第二段中的“The water drops over 100 metres in a short distance.”和“There are 18 dangerous spots where the water crashes against the shore.”可知,作者通过“100 米”和“18 个危险地点”这些数字来描述虎跳峡中部的情况。故选 B。
