A special fridge magnet
特别的冰箱贴
Recently, a fridge magnet has won the hearts of people in China. Many post pictures of the fridge magnets online. They also share how they have bought the fridge magnets. Usually that means getting up early and lining up.
The fridge magnet was designed by the National Museum of China. It is based on a phoenix coronet (凤冠) in the museum. The coronet was worn by Empress Xiaoduan (孝端皇后) from the Ming Dynasty. It has nine phoenixes and nine dragons on it. It is also decorated with lots of pearls and gems (宝石). The coronet is one of the museum's most precious exhibits and a national treasure. In fact, it is not allowed to be exhibited abroad.
The fridge magnet comes in two versions (版本): one in wood and the other in metal. Both are well made and show the real coronet's fine details.
The product came on the market in July 2024. It has been in hot demand since then. More than 145,000 have been sold. The high sales have made the fridge magnet become the museum's top seller of the past 20 years.
"These fridge magnets are both beautiful and meaningful," said one visitor, Mr Wu at the museum. He had travelled to Beijing to buy the fridge magnet. More importantly, he wanted to see the real phoenix coronet with his own eyes.
