Take a trip to Antarctica
去南极洲旅行
On a bright afternoon last summer, the cruise ship(游轮) Seabourn Pursuit reached Antarctica. It hit a sheet of ice in Hanusse Bay. As the ice broke off beneath its bow(船头), the ship slowly came to a stop.
The 250 passengers on board went out onto the deck. They were not running for their lives. Instead, they left the ship to take a walk around on the ice. They celebrated their arrival. It was all part of the plan for their Antarctic travel.
The number of tourists to Antarctica has been growing since the early 1990s. Back then, around 7,000 people would visit every year. By 2017, the number had risen to almost 44,000. The last five years have seen a huge increase in this number and it reached 122,000 earlier this year.

What's the reason behind the growth? Well, the trip has never been easier and more comfortable.
A few decades ago, Antarctic travel was anything but a luxury experience. Travellers took smaller ships.
They slept in bunk beds and ate quick meals like spaghetti. Few of the ships had windows for them to see outside.
Things are very different now. Take the Seabourn Pursuit for example. The ship has nine restaurants, eight lounges(休息室), and even a spa. Each of its cabins has a balcony. Travellers can stand outside and watch giant icebergs float by. But one thing remains the same. Whether on a "small boat" or a luxury ship, a trip to Antarctica is always a chance to see the bigger world.
