super-memory boy—Jake
拥有超级记忆的男孩——Jake
“Oh, dear, I can hardly remember the first time we ate at this restaurant,” Sari Hausler told her husband.
“I can,” said their son Jake. “19 January 2008. It was a Saturday night.”
Jake is only 15. However, he has filled his brain with more memories than most people would have in ten lifetimes. He remembers the results of every football game he has watched. Gracie, the family dog, he says, has hit him with her tail 41 times. He can also tell you the location of every item in the nearby supermarket. One morning in July, he woke up and said it was his 5,000th day on the earth. Over the years, his parents have gotten used to his superpower.
But remembering so much information has its problems. For example, Jake can’t forget the mistakes he has made. He feels sorry for them and is often in low spirits. His mother is worried about this problem. She advises him to keep a diary so that he might get the bad memories out of his head.
Another problem is that Jake’s teachers don’t like him. They call the boy a “know-it-all”. In class, when the teacher asks about a fact, Jake always gives the correct answer without raising his hand. The boy says he tries to keep quiet. Sometimes, however, he just can’t help but give the answer.
Despite these problems, Jake likes his superpower. “A super memory is cool, isn’t it?” says the boy. “You can always remember what’s on your grocery list or when this year’s Oscars will be held.”
