Wild giant pandas
International Panda Day is celebrated on 27th October every year. Let's also take the time to learn a few things about these cute animals in the wild.
Today, there are about 1,800 giant pandas in the wild. The animals mainly eat bamboo, but you may also find other plants in their diet. Sometimes, they even eat small rodents(啮齿动物), such as bamboo rats. In fact, a very long time ago, giant pandas mainly ate meat. Their diet turned about 99 per cent vegan more than two million years ago. Why? There may have been much more bamboo than meat at the time, scientists guess. This change of diet helped giant pandas to survive.
Wild giant pandas like to live alone. They mark their territory(活动范围) by leaving their scent(气味). Sometimes, male pandas do handstands(倒立) to pee up trees. It's a way of spreading their scent higher and farther. This makes them seem bigger and stronger to other pandas.
In the wild, it is not easy for giant pandas to have babies. But if a female gives birth to twins, the mother panda will usually abandon the weaker baby before long. It's because the mother panda doesn't have enough milk or energy to care for both babies. The mother panda will raise the stronger baby for about two and a half years. The young giant panda will then leave its mother and live on its own.

答案:
2. B 根据第三段中的“They mark their territory by leaving their scent. Sometimes, male pandas do handstands to pee up trees.”
3. D 根据最后一段中的“The mother panda will raise the stronger baby for about two and a half years.”
