三、阅读理解。
Shasta is an 11 - year - old girl in Cameroon(喀麦隆), Africa. It is hard for her family to get clean water. Every morning, she leaves home at 5:30 to get clean water for her family in a village far away. It takes her six hours to get enough water for daily cooking and drinking. She has no time to go to school or to play with her friends. Do you know how valuable the water is?
Water covers 70% of the earth's surface. But 97% is sea water. Among the 3% of the fresh water, only 0.3% can be used easily. They are from rivers, lakes and pools. The rest 99.7% is so deep under the ground that it's too hard to use it. What's worse, we are wasting and polluting the water. It's reported that 0.9 billion people can't get safe clean water to cook or drink in the world. About 2.2 million people die every year because of the polluted water. And 34% of all kinds of fish are dying out.
What can we do to protect the water? The most important way is to stop polluting water at once. Factories that produce much pollution should be shut off (关掉). Don't throw rubbish into water any more. Then learn to save water. When we wash clothes, brush teeth and take a shower, we should use the least water. The third way is we can plant lots of trees and grass. It's so good for protecting water.
