An APP (应用程序) that encourages students to spend time away from their phones was released(发布) in the UK. “Hold” was developed by three students. They met at Copenhagen Business School and wanted to develop something to help with the problem of mobile phones. It has proved popular in Scandinavia, with more than 120,000 users across Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Parents are worried about the problem of phone addiction (瘾). According to a 2017 study by the University of Texas, having a smart phone within their view could slow down response speed and reduce grades.
A study from the London School of Economics suggested pupils who did not use their smart phones in school had a 6.4% increase in test scores.
The APP is used in 170 universities around the UK. It works on both Android and iOS mobile phones and is free to download.
Students will get 10 points for every 20 minutes that they do not use their mobile phones between 7:00 and 23:00 every day of the week. Points can be exchanged(交换) for goods and services in the APP's marketplace, such as Caffe Nero, Vue cinemas and Amazon.
