语篇类型:说明文 ♟ 主题:THIEVES 阅读法 ☑ 词数:282 (④ 难度:中 ⊗ 建议用时:7分钟
[广东东莞 2025 高一联考]Before diving into a study session, have you ever spent some time checking
the length of the text or the number of pages you need to read? The feeling of relief if it’s short or the
complaint if it’s quite long is all too familiar. 1 It can really improve your study experience and help you
manage time better.
But do you know that another similar but better method exists? It’s called the THIEVES method, and it
comes with a lot of new benefits. 2 This promotes your understanding of the material and improves your
ability to recall it later.
This method is recommended widely to children, especially when it comes to teaching reading. 3
The THIEVES study method has been shown to be effective for students of all ages and levels of reading
ability. Its name is derived from the acronym(首字母缩略词)standing for its steps: Title, Headings,
Introduction, Every first sentence in a paragraph, Visuals and vocabulary, End-of-chapter questions, and
Summary.
4 The title gives you a clue about the text, enabling you to predict what it will cover. Headings tell
you the main point of each part. The introduction offers an outline of the text. Every first sentence in a
paragraph usually summarises its central idea. Reading them helps you rapidly master what each paragraph is
about. Visuals such as photos and graphs aid in visualising the information presented in the text. Identifying
the meaning of vocabulary words can also improve your comprehension of the text. Usually, there are some
questions at the end of the chapters that you can use to review the text. Note the information within these
questions, which will probably assist you in understanding the concepts as a whole. 5
A.Practise the steps in order.
B.This simple act is called previewing.
C.Many people are unwilling to use this method.
D.But don’t think that it can’t be used by older learners.
E.Each step plays an important role in understanding a text.
F.Finally, the summary will give you the whole picture of the text.
G. When practising this approach, you “steal” information from specific parts of the text.

答案:
[语篇导读]本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了THIEVES阅读法,一种帮助读者更有效地理解和记忆阅读材料的方法,并解释了其各个步骤的具体作用。
1.B 上文提到了在深入学习前查看文章长度或阅读页数等行为,下文“It can really improve your study experience and help you manage time better.”说明这种行为有好处,设空处应说明空后的It指代的内容,B项(这种简单的行为叫作预览)承上启下,符合语境,其中的This simple act指代上文提到的查看文章长度等行为,previewing与下文的It相呼应。故选B项。
2.G 上文引出了THIEVES阅读法并指出这一方法有很多好处,故设空处应承接上文,介绍与该方法好处相关的内容;再根据下文的“This promotes your understanding of the material and improves your ability to recall it later.”
