There are many popular and useful inventions in our everyday life. Here are two of them.
The television is a very important one. It offers us a good way to relax. But do you know the history of the television?

It's said that the very first television came out in October, 1925 in London and it was not invented by just one person. It was made by three people named John Logie Baird, Philo T. Farnsworth and Vladimir Zworykin. At that time, the television had no sound and its pictures were black and white. It was till 1954 that someone invented the television with colorful pictures.
The modern television was marked by the appearance of the SONY cassette tape (盒式磁带) in Japan in 1979 and it became the television we are using today.
Another one is the telephone. Do you know the name of Alexander Bell? He was an Englishman and he was regarded as the inventor of the telephone we use today. His telephone was invented in 1876. But before Bell, someone had also come up with the idea of sending sound from a far place. In 1796, an English man called Robert Hooke first thought of the way to send sound by using telephone. That's where the word "telephone" comes from.

Telephones used to be big and hard to carry, which is different from those we use today. Telephones today are cheap and easy to carry. What's more, they have many functions (功能) and there are many kinds for people to choose.
