"Hello, everyone, I'm taikong jie (space sister)," said Russian actress Yulia Peresild, greeting the audience(观众)in a cinema in Beijing.
Peresild is the first actress in human history to film a movie in space. She spent 12 days on the International Space Station (ISS) for the Russian movie, The Challenge, which is now playing in China. The movie tells an exciting story. Peresild plays a doctor who goes to space to help a sick Russian astronaut.
Filming a movie in space is not easy. Peresild and the director Klim Shipenko trained hard for three-and-a-half months before going to space. Peresild did some 8G centrifuge(离心的)tests. It's the test that astronauts usually take. It feels like eight times your own body weight pressing down on you. She did very well in them.
While in space, because of the microgravity(微重力)environment, Peresild had to make herself suited to this environment. And as the movie team only had two members, the actress had to do her own makeup. So, she used adhesive hooks(粘钩)to keep her makeup things in place and stop them from floating(漂浮)away.
Space also brought her something new. In a gravity-free environment, people won't easily be fat. Peresild said she enjoyed eating and found she preferred hot foods. The trip also brought her a once-in-a-lifetime view. "We could see a blue arc(弧形的)line at the edges(边缘)of the sun and Earth," she said.
"The Challenge gives the audience a very realistic look at space travel," said Chen Zheng, a professor of physics at Beijing Jiaotong University. "When Peresild comes into zero gravity, her hair stands upright and floats. People cannot get this weightless feeling on Earth by any physical means."
