Dennis Kasumba lost his parents when he was young. He lived together with his grandmother in a tiny brick house without furniture or even running water. When he was 14, hunger and hopelessness led him to drop out of school and take a job of slaughtering(屠宰) cattle.
Paul Wafula, a volunteer baseball coach, recalled their first conversation. “I asked him why he was working in the slaughterhouse and he was like, ‘I want to have something to eat. We don’t have anything to eat at home.’” So Wafula made the boy a deal: leave the slaughterhouse and each time he came to the baseball field he would be fed. When Kasumba became a regular, Wafula sweetened the deal: If he kept coming, the coach would also pay for him to go back to school.
Thus began a relationship that would confirm Wafula’s belief in the power of the sport and fill Kasumba, now 18, with a dream of becoming Uganda’s first major - league player.
Each morning, Kasumba gets up just as the sun rises. He steps into the muddy path in front of the house and performs a dizzying series of drills using some old tires, plastic bottles filled with water and an old blue backpack stuffed with rocks. Wafula always shows up about an hour into the workout and stands in mud and sometimes calls out encouragement. For two hours Kasumba jumps, runs and lifts in the heat.
His cousin, Esther Nassali, recorded his training and posted the videos on social media, where they have drawn tens of thousands of followers. The unique workouts even earned him a two - minute segment on the South Korean TV. Joshua Williams, a lawyer in Atlanta who saw the videos, has started a campaign to bring Kasumba to the United States. Kasumba recently secured an invitation to play in the draft league of Major League Baseball (MLB), the main organized group of US baseball teams that have players that are paid for playing.

根据第三段中的“Kasumba, now 18, with a dream of becoming Uganda’s first major - league player”可知,Kasumba现在的梦想是成为乌干达的第一位职业棒球大联盟球员。
根据第四段中的“Each morning, Kasumba gets up just as the sun rises. He steps into the muddy path in front of the house and performs a dizzying series of drills using some old tires, plastic bottles filled with water and an old blue backpack stuffed with rocks.”
根据最后一段中的“His cousin, Esther Nassali, recorded his training and posted the videos on social media...The unique workouts even earned him a two - minute segment on the South Korean TV.”
