Bert won a national prize called Young Heroes for his “green” project. His love for insects grew deeper and he was protecting them for the future.
▲ When he was around 4 or 5, he always loved to watch different insects, especially beautiful swallowtails (凤蝶). One interesting fact he learned about swallowtails was that their bright colors warned hungry animals that they tasted bad. And it was also fun to watch how they came into being. But the reason he really fell in love with them was that they were very easy to get close to. For example, if you wanted to attract (吸引) swallowtails, you planted some zinnias, a kind of bright flowers.
Bert started a zinnia garden at his house, where he raised a large number of swallowtails over the years. With the number of swallowtails falling, Bert wanted people to realize that if insects like swallowtails disappeared, so would all the others above them on the food chain. To make the fact clear and easy to understand for other students, he also created a zinnia garden at his junior high school.
Part of the joy for Bert was watching the younger students get excited when running after swallowtails. “Whenever swallowtails land on them, the young students will soon fall in love with these cute insects. They develop a new appreciation for them,” he said.
Bert put his effort into the environmental educational project and made it take flight.
59. What did Bert do after he was honored with Young Heroes?

61. What was the main reason for Bert to create a zinnia garden at school?
A. To watch students have fun.
B. To make his school more beautiful.
C. To stop swallowtails from disappearing.
D. To help kids learn about swallowtails.
62. What would be the best title for the text?
A. A Bright Flower

D. A Warning Action
答案: 59 - 62 DCDB

It is the name given to a computer system that is able to "think" for itself and carry out tasks that usually require human intelligence.
定语从句关系词,先行词是computer system
定语从句关系词,先行词是tasks
译文:它是一种计算机系统的名称,它能够自己“思考”,并执行通常需要人类的智力才能完成的任务。

Scientists have developed a way to read minds, translating unspoken thoughts into written words. It's the first time it's been done without having to put anything into the brain. They used artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能). It is the name given to a computer system that is able to “think” for itself and carry out tasks that usually require human intelligence.
Scientists used a special scanner (扫描器). The machine can see where blood runs, which shows the parts of the brain that are most active. People taking part in the experiment (实验) listened to the radio for 16 hours as their brains were scanned. The AI tool learned to connect certain brain activity with words they heard. After that, each person was asked to think of a story, and the AI tool managed to pick up these thoughts as they happened.
The results had about a 50% accuracy rate (准确率), although the AI found it hard to work out the meaning of pronouns, such as he or she, her or him. For example, it turned “I don't have my driver's license yet” into “She has not even started to learn to drive yet.” It could usually understand the meaning of what someone was thinking rather than the exact words. The AI was personalized, so when it had learnt from one person but it was tested on another, it couldn't understand their thoughts.
The scientists, who have been working on the technology for 15 years, say they understand the risks of it being used badly. Scientist Jerry Tang told a newspaper, “We want to make sure people only use this type of technology when they want to, and that it helps them.” The scientists hope it will help people with certain medical conditions, who are still awake but have lost the ability to speak, to communicate once again.

When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living for a month, or even for a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?
As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford not to be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (讨厌的).
One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I turned notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone.
Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me.
However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes—changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused. Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved.
I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the season's change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares.
Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.
