What's the end of the world for a chocolate lover? Somewhere with no chocolate! Scientists said the world could run out of chocolate within 40 years. It is because global warming is bad for cacao (可可) trees.
The trees can only grow within 20 degrees north and south of the equator (赤道). They like rich rain. However, the rising temperatures can make the air dryer. The warming weather also makes the land less fit for growing cacao. It could also make tree illnesses spread faster.
Although the warming weather is making trouble for planting cacao, we can still do something in the near future.
The world is trying to do what it can to save our favorite candy. Scientists are working to make the cacao plants strong against illnesses. They are using gene editing (基因编辑) to change the DNA of cacao.
Another way to save chocolate is a growing method called “cabruca” from Brazil. It lets cacao grow without changing its genes. This method plants more rainforest trees to provide cacao trees with shade. It can cool the cacao down and keep the soil wet.
What's more, cacao is also produced in the Caribbean, India and Australia. These places can help with growing more cacao if necessary.

D. What the best temperature for cacao trees is.
67. How are scientists working to make cacao trees stronger?

It's called natural history. It goes back to ancient times. Scientists at the time started to look at the diversity (多样性) of the natural world.
Over time, more and more “naturalists” got busy studying, collecting and organizing the world's animals, plants and rocks. They tried to put together the “puzzle (谜)” of life on Earth, and even the whole universe.
Today, natural history museums around the world give people a place to think about natural history. But this is only a starting point. In China, interest in natural history is very high right now. From natural history books and apps to environmental groups and activities, people are showing great interest. This is happening as China is working to make a greener world.
Nowadays, natural history is seen as a kind of lifestyle. People like to think about it together with other things, such as art, writing, food and travel. It's good for the mind and body. We need naturalists now more than ever. The puzzle of life on Earth is still not done, and it's changing quickly.
