Do you know The Ordinary World (《平凡的世界》)? It is one of the best novels of Lu Yao. Lu Yao is one of the greatest Chinese writers in the twentieth century. His real name is Wang Weiguo. He was born in 1949 in Shaanxi

After finishing school, he became an editor (编辑) of the Yanhe magazine. In 1982, Lu Yao published his first novel Life, and it was made into a film in 1984. Then Lu Yao became famous all over China. In 1988, Lu Yao finished his most famous work The Ordinary World. It made Lu Yao win the Mao Dun Literature Prize later.
The novel has three parts and shows the lives of common people in China. It tells the stories of two young men in the poor countryside, Sun Shaoping and Sun Shaoan. It describes the young men’s striving (奋斗) to change their lives and the great changes in Chinese society at that time. Sadly, Lu Yao died in 1992. People in China will never forget the great writer.
