[2025 珠海一中高一期中]There were many embarrassing(令人尴尬的) times and situations when I was in primary school. I vividly remember a moment that I still regret to this day.
During my childhood, an important part of my time was spent on my collection of National Geographic magazines. Each year on my birthday, my mother would gift me a new magazine to add to my growing collection, which I treasured very much. One day, when I was seven, I ran across a picture of a bologna tree. However, I didn't actually read the article about the tree. I just thought I discovered the source of bologna sandwiches! Little did I know that this newfound knowledge would come back to trouble me in the future.
Not long after, I found an opportunity to show my rich knowledge and prove to my classmates that I was indeed a smart kid. During a classroom discussion about unusual things, I took the moment to confidently stand up in front of the whole class. With an air of authority, I declared, "It is a well - known fact that bologna sandwiches come from the bologna tree."
I deeply believed that the delicious sandwiches I had tasted during a family vacation to Italy grew on trees. This extremely silly opinion was a source of both embarrassment and frustration for me. However, my teacher Ms Murphy at that moment was kind enough to smile and tell me that my misconception(错误想法) was "quite imaginative". Unfortunately, my classmates didn't have the same opinion, as they laughed loudly and said that my belief was "the stupidest thing they had ever heard". It was a moment that made me feel foolish and embarrassed.
For a while after that incident, I was filled with feelings of self - doubt. I was embarrassed about my inability to tell fact from imagination. I felt like a clown(小丑), thinking that my classmates would never let me forget my foolish mistake.

For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment.
Inspired by Ms Murphy, I began to share information again but became more careful about the information.

Story Mountain
【高分词汇】keep my mouth shut 闭嘴 walk on eggshells 谨言慎行
For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment. I refused to open the magazines and kept my mouth shut during classes. I felt I was walking on eggshells and afraid to share my opinions, constantly worried that I might say something foolish. Ms Murphy, who noticed the change in my behavior(非限制性定语从句), found a moment to speak with me privately one day. “I’m proud of you for being brave enough to share what you thought was true,” she said gently. “Everyone makes mistakes, but it’s how we learn from them that counts(强调句). Keep exploring and sharing; just be a bit more careful next time.”
Inspired by Ms Murphy, I began to share information again but became more careful about the information. Frustrated yet resolute(形容词短语作状语), I began to double-check my sources and read them thoroughly before sharing anything, unwilling to repeat the same mistake. It was a lesson learned the hard way, but it forced me to recognize the vital importance of confirming facts before presenting them. Rarely have I been so embarrassed.(倒装句) It is the experience that makes me a more thoughtful and diligent learner.(强调句)

3. Speechless and happy, she held her son tightly into her arms, with tears welling up in her eyes.

[2025 东北育才学校高一期末]I've always prided myself on being a polite and well - mannered gentleman, disliking any behavior that lacks proper politeness. However, in an unexpected turn of events, I found myself becoming the very person I have a strong dislike for. It happened during a wait for a train at the Southampton station.
One afternoon, I was waiting for the train to London, and the station was crowded with travelers. With some time to spare, I decided to go into a convenience store to buy a pack of potato chips, which I put into my backpack carelessly. With a bit of time before the train left, I took out a book, found a seat, and absorbed myself in reading.
After a while, I noticed a woman beside me casually(漫不经心地) helping herself to my bag of chips, showing complete disrespect. I was shocked by her rudeness. Without any acknowledgment or permission, she had dived into my snack. While I had a strong desire to express my dissatisfaction, I held back. I lightly moved the bag closer to me, hoping she'd take it easy. To my surprise, the woman remained undisturbed(未受干扰的) by the situation and went on pulling out a bag of chips from the pack, giving me a smile. Her actions were so daring that I was left in disbelief. At that moment, I struggled with conflicting(矛盾的) emotions. On the one hand, I felt like talking to her directly about her actions, but on the other, I fought off my anger, maintaining my calmness.
Then the broadcast announced, "Passengers, please board the train." I absentmindedly threw my book into my backpack, took the empty potato chip pack that had been shared, dropped it into the rubbish bin, and headed straight for the ticket gate. Soon I found my seat on the train. Unexpectedly, the woman's seat was directly opposite mine. Feeling upset, I reached into my backpack, intending to continue my reading so as to calm myself down.

【情感线】prided→shocked→had a strong desire to express my dissatisfaction→To my surprise→left in disbelief→I struggled with conflicting(矛盾的) emotions→Unexpectedly→Feeling upset
【高分词汇】my face flushes with shame 我的脸羞愧地红了 without permission 未经许可 set an example for 为……
To my amazement, I discovered my unopened bag of chips resting safely inside. It was then that I suddenly realized the truth(强调句), which made me feel deeply ashamed(非限制性定语从句) — the bag of chips the woman had been eating, with me mistakenly assuming it was mine(with复合结构), actually belonged to her all along. Had I been more observant, I wouldn’t have judged her rude.(倒装,虚拟语气) My face flushing with shame(独立主格结构), I sincerely apologized to the lady and explained the misunderstanding as best as I could.
“No worries,” the woman said with a smile. She explained that life, which is too short to get upset about minor misunderstandings(非限制性定语从句), should be embraced with generosity and understanding. Had I been in her position, I might not have displayed such patience and warmth.(倒装,虚拟语气) Though I had eaten her chips without permission, she remained friendly, an exceptional act that I now recognize as the true embodiment of kindness. Her action sets an example for me, showing a standard of kindness far beyond my own ideals.
【情感线】prided→shocked→had a strong desire to express my dissatisfaction→To my surprise→left in disbelief→I struggled with conflicting(矛盾的) emotions→Unexpectedly→Feeling upset
