A few years ago, my older brother became a captain in his department. I called to congratulate him, and while we were catching up, he mentioned he'd been eating more healthily and working out more regularly. Then he added, "I had a salad for lunch today." 36
My brother has hunted since he was a teenager — salad was never exactly his cup of tea. When I asked if he was on a diet, he said, "Not really. I want to look and feel the part before I actually take on the role." 37 It's not by announcing it to the world, but by shaping ourselves to match the change. For my brother, it wasn't about waiting for the promotion to change. It was about becoming the kind of person who was ready for the life he was stepping into.
Many of us have a sense of the life we want to live — whether it has to do with work, relationships or purpose. But stepping into the life we desire hardly begins with something external. 38 And it also starts with the small but meaningful changes we make on the inside.
39 So I advise them to create an inner environment that allows for change. Actually, my brother didn't wait to feel like a captain before he began to live like one. If we want to live more fully, or behave more bravely, we don't have to wait for some permission. 40 Don't imagine the life we want, but grow into the person who's ready to live it.
A.That surprised me.
B.Focus on big changes, not small ones.
C.It's about waiting for the right moment.
D.Maybe that's what preparation is really about.
E.More often, it starts with how we see ourselves.
F.His comment made me think about how to prepare for change.
G. Often, many long for something new but are unsure how to begin.

答案:
36. A 上文的“he’d been eating more healthily... ‘I had a salad for lunch today.’”
F项中的His comment呼应空前哥哥的回复,F项中的“to prepare for change”符合空后It所指代的内容,故F项符合语境。
38. E 空前的“But stepping into the life we desire hardly begins with something external”指出迈入理想生活很少始于外部事物,E项用More often对应hardly,用“how we see ourselves”对应something external,且E项中的starts with呼应空前的begins with和空后的also starts with,故E项符合语境。
39. G 空后“So I advise them... allows for change”提到作者建议他们营造一种能让改变发生的内在环境,故空处应体现这种建议,G项的many恰好呼应them。
40. D 空前的“If we want to live more fully... wait for some permission”指出如果我们想活得更充实或表现得更勇敢,我们不必等待别人的许可,空后教我们应该怎么做。D项“也许这就是准备的真正意义”承上启下,符合语境。
