Learning a language is usually different from learning other subjects. It is something 56 includes a lot of practice and follow-ups. When 57 (refer) to my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language.
I learned English for ten years starting from Grade Seven to graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I made a lot of efforts 58 (increase) my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language 59 (take) a lifetime.
I still remember my first English teachers who changed 60 (frequent) in the beginning, but all of them had much in common—they used grammar-translation method. They used to write bilingual (双语的) lists of words on the board, and then we, as students, 61 (require) to copy these lists and memorise them by heart. All teaching was focused on reading and writing skills, but there were no 62 (activity) focusing on speaking or listening.
Now, 63 is still a headache for me to fully know how to use idioms (习语) and the proper form of vocabulary. Idioms have many connotations (言外意义) in the English language. Sometimes I use an idiom and I mean something, 64 the connotation of the idiom means something else. Besides, I should also study harder to use certain vocabulary 65 (correct).

答案: 56.that 考查定语从句。句意:这需要大量的练习和跟进。空格处引导的是限制性定语从句,关系词替代先行词,从句中缺少主语,先行词 something 是复合不定代词,因此空格处用关系代词 that。故填 that。 make efforts to do sth 是固定短语,意为“努力做某事”,因此空格处用不定式 to increase。故填 to increase。 故填 were required。 62.activities 考查名词的复数。句意:所有的教学都集中在阅读和写作技能上,但没有针对口语或听力的活动。activity 是可数名词,由 were 可知,空格处用复数 activities。故填 activities。 63.it 考查代词。句意:现在,完全了解如何使用习语和正确的词汇形式对我来说仍然是一个头疼的问题。it is a headache for sb to do sth,意为“做某事令某人头痛”,其中 it 是形式主语,真正的主语是不定式,因此空格处用 it。故填 it。 64.but 考查连词。句意:有时候我用了一个习语,想表达某种意思,但是这个习语的内涵是别的意思。根据语境可知,句子表示“有时候我用了一个习语,想表达某种意思,但是这个习语的内涵是别的意思”,空格处意为“但是”,用并列连词 but。故填 but。 65.correctly 考查副词。句意:此外,我还应该更加努力地正确使用某些词汇。空格处用副词 correctly 作状语修饰动词 use,correctly 意为“正确地”。故填 correctly。

My English Learning
In the first few weeks at senior high school, learning English was quite challenging. I struggled with complex grammar and a small vocabulary, which made me frustrated. Later, I decided to change by seeking advice from my teacher and classmates. I started reading English novels and watching English videos to improve my skills. Gradually, I gained confidence in speaking and understanding English. Now, I can express myself fluently and even participate in English speech contests. Learning English has become enjoyable for me.

第二节(2024·山东潍坊期末统考)(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为 150 左右。
I had recently graduated from high school and volunteered at a local nursing home. It was an eye-opening experience. One of the residents, Ms Brown, seemed bored and unhappy. She had the reputation (名声) of being “difficult”. She was odd (古怪的) and stayed alone all day, unwilling to communicate with others. It seemed as if she had lived in a world of her own.
The nursing workers kindly advised that when I got her up, I should tie her to her chair before going to get her breakfast, for she might fall down. I simply did as I was told. After all, I didn't want her to fall and get hurt. I always struck up a conversation the minute I walked into her room to get her up for breakfast. She never spoke but I knew she could hear me, and she knew I cared.
One morning, I sat her down in her chair safely as before. While all of this was taking place, she just watched me attentively as I set about the task at hand, talking to her the whole time. After explaining that I would be right back with her breakfast, I stepped out into the hallway to the breakfast cart (手推车). It took a couple of minutes to find hers. I got it and started back down the hall to her room about fifteen feet away. Coming near the door, I heard some noises from inside. I looked in and saw an empty chair. Ms Brown was back in her bed, all covered up and comfortable, acting like nothing had happened. Right then and there, I realised that there was a lot more going on in that woman's head than any of us had imagined. I had to find something that would inspire her interest in life again.
Paragraph 1:
The next month, I would talk about everything I could think of.
One sunny morning, I brought one of my favourite books to Ms Brown, introducing it briefly to her and asking her if she would like me to read it for her. With surprise in her eyes, she stared at me and nodded definitely. Then I began to read the book with emotion. As I read vividly, she seemed to be immersed in the plot and her facial expression constantly changed with the development of the story. "Does he love her?" she asked me suddenly. "I think so, Ms Brown," I answered excitedly. "But what will he do next?" another question flowed out of Ms Brown's mouth and I gave her a reply quickly. Unconsciously, we started a conversation, talking about the book, the author and whatever Ms Brown was interested in.

Paragraph 2:
From that day on, Ms Brown and I chatted every day.
Gradually, I found she had a lot of hobbies such as reading and singing when she was young. However, as she grew older, she felt more and more lonely and lost interest in them as well. So I began to read for her every day, sharing good stories and listening to pop music with her together. Finally, Ms Brown became a happy and easy-going woman who was enthusiastic about life again instead of being "difficult" and I enjoyed my volunteering job more and more.
