文学故事Monday/Week 8
I n her latest novel, Off the Map, Meika Hashimoto takes readers on an adventure in Alaska. Marlo goes on a canoe (皮划艇) trip every year with her mom and dog. But this year, to Marlo's surprise, her mom has invited Marlo's friend, Amos, and his father. Before long, Marlo and Amos find themselves get lost. With only each other and some supplies (补给品), Amos and Marlo need to work together to stay safe in the wild. Can they do it?

As a nature lover, Hashimoto knew she wanted to set her story in the Alaskan wild, which she had visited before writing Off the Map. "It is beautiful. It is huge. *It is a place where if you get lost you really, really can get lost," Hashimoto says.
Marlo and Amos's time in the wild is full of excitements. But Hashimoto's favorite parts of the book are the quieter moments: the conversations (谈话) between Marlo and Amos "about their relationship and what went wrong". She enjoys when they talk it through, and each realizes where the other is coming from.
Off the Map is a mix of adventure, danger, and special moments. Hashimoto hopes the story will encourage readers to expand (增加) their love for nature and explore the outdoors—just like Marlo and Amos do.
