S han Xinghua is a pioneer in modernizing China's railway ticketing system. She was given the title "Role Model of the Times" in December, 2024. 50-year-old Shan spent many years working on China's online railway ticketing system.

Her hard work has helped to set up 12306. It is the world's largest real-time ticketing platform (平台). It serves over 700 million users, and it treats more than 50 billion daily visits during peak periods (高峰期).

Shan began her job in 1996 when she joined a new research team, and she was responsible (负责) for creating a national ticketing system. Over the years, she has met many challenges, got over many difficulties, and led the team to get great success step by step.
*The system first came out in 2011, and it faced its biggest challenge during the 2012 Spring Festival travel time. Too many people bought tickets online at the same time. "At this serious moment, we had to overcome the challenges, no matter how difficult," Shan told her team.
Today, the 12306 platform can sell over 1,000 tickets per second during peak periods, while users can get their tickets in just 1.2 seconds. "Technological innovation (创新) should serve society and improve people's lives," she said.
