第178页
____ [读故事,知典故]
Once upon a time, there was a Chinese gentleman who was teaching several
students. One day,one of his friends,a doctor, came to visit the gentleman.
The guest noticed some students eating many pears and jujubes(枣).He said to
them,“ Pears are good for teeth, but eating too many of them would hurt your spleen(脾
脏).Jujubes are good for the spleen, but chewing too many of them would hurt your
teeth."
One of the students really loved pears and jujubes. He felt sad after hearing what the
doctor had said. The child thought for a long time. Then he said,“| know what to do ! l
can chew a pear but not swallow it and I can swallow a jujube directly without chewing it.
In this way,I would protect both my spleen and teeth.”
The student's words made the other people laugh. If he tried to swallow a jujube
whole,it wouldn't taste good or be easy to digest(消化).The child only took in what he
was told, without really understanding its meaning. His way of thinking was just like
swallowing a jujube without actually chewing it.
