二、阅读理解
A
Do you know the word “mushroom hunter(蘑菇猎人)”? It has become a heated topic in America recently. It actually refers to those who spend hours or even days in the wooded areas to find wild mushrooms.
Dennis Aita lives in New York City. He has been a mushroom hunter since the 1980s. He first became interested in them while walking in a mountain in the 1970s. As he hiked, he began noticing mushrooms and other wild vegetables. So, he decided to try picking up wild mushrooms.
Dennis says mushroom hunting changed his relationship with the environment. He points out that he often walks quickly and seldom notices the plants and trees around him when hiking. However, to find mushrooms, you must walk slowly. In this way, you get a chance to see the birds, the trees and grasses, little animals and everything. You begin to pay close attention to the small things on trees and on the ground. It will bring you a special experience that you never have before. But problems appear, too. When you look for mushrooms, you always keep your head down, which can make you get lost easily in the woods. In the United States, some people have died after spending all night unprotected in the cold woods or got lost while hunting for mushrooms.
So, what makes people go out for hours and hours searching for mushrooms? Just for eating? Mushrooms are healthy and eating them can be good for our health. Some people find mushrooms just for cooking and eating. And some for money. Some unusual species(品种) are popular in the expensive restaurants. So it is profitable. But for Dennis Aita, he just loves finding them in unexpected places. That makes him excited and happy. He has traveled to Canada, Italy, India, Nepal and Argentina in search of different mushrooms. To him, the most exciting thing is to watch the growth of the mushrooms in his greenhouse.
