Here're some stories about the development of LEGO, a successful toy company (公司).
The stories started in the village of Billund, Denmark. Ole Kirk Christiansen liked making all kinds of things with wood when he was a child. He had a workshop and in 1932 he started making toys and some other things with wood. His products were very good and soon he got big orders.
In 1934, toys became the main business of his workshop. Ole wanted a new name for his workshop. So he held a competition to name it. Finally, he won it himself with the name “LEGO”. It means “play well” in Danish.
In 1947, Ole started to make plastic(塑料的) toys. He then got the idea to create a “system(体系)” of toys that would build kids' imagination and creativity(想象力和创造力). And the idea caught on well! Many people were interested in it. LEGO company was set up.
In 1949, LEGO company began to produce LEGO bricks. True to its motto “Only the best is good enough”, the company pays much attention to producing high-quality and safe products. This has made children and their parents return to LEGO products time and again.
Thanks to Ole, kids around the world can enjoy LEGO toys. It's said that the world's children spend 5 billion hours a year playing with LEGO toys.
