二 阅读与表达
My name is Jack. Half a year ago, Bruce and his parents moved into the house next to ours. At first, I was so excited. I thought I could finally have a friend to do lots of things together. But when I saw him, I wasn't happy. He was neither tall nor strong enough, so he wasn't the friend I wanted.
One day, we both went to watch a cricket (板球) match with our parents. We both liked it very much, so we began to learn the sport from a coach together. At weekends, we even practised six hours a day. I felt so tired. I decided not to go to the lessons any more.
After knowing that, Bruce talked with me. He said, “Hey, but you still want to be better. Many times when I wanted to give up. I found you were practising in front of me. So I should improve myself to catch up with you. No sport is easy. I advise you not to give up this time.”
Hearing what Bruce said, I came to know that he was a better sportsman than me. Now I'm pleased to be his friend.
