四、阅读理解。
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,从题中所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳答案。
Have you ever heard the saying "the quiet before the storm(暴风雨)"? It means a quiet time before a busy or hard time arrives.
The saying was first used by fishermen. They found that just before a storm the sea(海洋)and the air would be very quiet. Soon, the clouds would get together and they'd hear the first thunder(雷声).
How does this happen(发生)? Let's see the science behind it!
Warm air goes up.
Warm air is lighter than the cooler air around it. Just before a storm, warm air near the ground begins to go up quickly. Low pressure(气压)takes shape. As the warm air goes up, taking away a lot of energy(能量), it shapes a low air pressure area near the ground.
Clouds build up.
At the same time, high up in the sky, the warm air is cooling and getting together to become clouds. These clouds go on building up, getting heavier and darker.
Storm arrives.
At last, this build-up of energy in the air makes the storm itself. The quiet ends as rain, wind, and thunder arrive.
So, when things become quiet, don't be fooled! Remember, this quiet doesn't last long. A big storm might be just around the corner. Nature(自然)always has its ways to surprise us!
