Ⅴ. (2023·南通海安城南实验中学期中)任务型阅读
文章以张璐为例介绍了口译员们成功背后所付出的努力,说明技能和勤奋会带来成功。
Every year in March, while the important meetings are being held in Beijing, government officers give reports to the public. They hold news conferences(发布会) and answer questions from reporters from both home and abroad. During this time, a lot of people are paying attention to China. For this reason, interpreters (口译员) play a very important role. They help reporters understand the speakers and allow China to be heard by the rest of the world.
Zhang Lu is an excellent interpreter. She has been to hundreds of big events like this. She usually interprets for top leaders. Many leaders like to use Chinese literary quotes(文学典故) in their speeches. Zhang is skilled at translating them quickly and clearly. To be able to do this, an interpreter needs to know both their native language(母语) and a foreign language quite well.
How are interpreters like Zhang able to work so well and quickly? The source of their ability is largely hard work. Most of them learned English in college and went through a great deal of training. After they work as interpreters, they never stop learning. Even after working as an interpreter for over 10 years, Zhang still watches and listens to foreign media such as BBC, VOA and CNN on TV or the radio every day as part of her training.
According to China Radio International, a month before the important meetings, the interpreters know who they are going to interpret for. They then make full use of the month to prepare themselves. They try to guess what kinds of questions might be asked. They also look at literary quotes that the spokespersons(发言人) might plan to use when they answer questions.
There is no “secret” to the success of China's best interpreters. It's all a matter of skill and hard work.
