2b 阅读理解
According to Time magazine, there are at least five million tons of plastic in the ocean. Certain sea animals often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish(水母) to eat, which can kill them. Fish, penguins and other bird species often get plastic chains stuck on their legs or necks, slowly killing them.
Plastic products do harm to the world we are living in. Luckily, there are new and recyclable products of all kinds to replace(代替) them all.
As we all know, disposable(一次性的) plastic water bottles are not only wasteful but also harmful to the environment. This is a simple problem to solve: We stop producing disposable plastic bottles and start using reusable water bottles. But what can we do with the plastic bottles that have already been made? We can follow the instructions from some videos on the social media platforms and no longer use these materials that take 200 years to break down to build houses.
To replace plastic bags, there are new recyclable bags made of cassava, a kind of root vegetable. The company that makes them is in Indonesia, and it makes people try to save the country from being drowned in plastic. Another replacement of plastic is reusable shopping bags.
They’re stronger than plastic bags, so there’s no chance of your milk falling and breaking on the road as you walk to your car.
For restaurants, there’s also a replacement for plastic wrap(包裹材料), Bee’s wrap. It costs at least 18, but because it can be reused, it still saves money.
These are just some of the many choices the world has to replace plastic. Any company in the world can use these methods to create and sell environmentally friendly products. The point is that it is possible to replace plastic. Plastic needs to be thrown away once and for all.
