Yunnan's migrating(迁徙) elephant herd(象群) headed back home. Since last year, the herd has got attention worldwide for its unusual migration. On March 15th, 2020, the herd began to move north from its home in Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province.
On the travel, the herd visited villages and towns and welcomed two new babies into the family. After a 17-month long walk, the herd finally decided, “East or west, home is best.”
During the travel, the government offered them food and followed them with flying drones(无人机). With the help of the police, more than 150,000 people moved away from the herd. Even as the herd took up many communities(社区) along the way, they left zero injuries(受伤) because the government and people worked together to make sure of the safety(安全) of both animals and humans.
While the reason why the herd had this travel is still unknown, we do know the home of the elephants was in danger and they had to find a better one.
In fact, the Chinese government is taking action to protect the environment. Thanks to the work of the government, we can see some deserts turn into green land. More and more wild animals come back. Humans and wild animals can enjoy the warm sunshine together again.
