Ⅴ. 阅读理解。
In big events or on special days, people usually see many volunteers carrying small red flags or wearing red armbands (臂章) in public places. They provide service for other people for free. Some of them are college students and others are old people. They help the police to keep people in order or help the cleaners with some cleaning.
In recent years, more and more people have joined in activities of volunteering. The spirit of helping others has spread among the Chinese people, especially among young people. Volunteering is not only good for the people in need, but also good for the volunteers themselves. On the one hand, the people who accept the help will feel warm and get out of the trouble on the other hand, helping those people in need can make volunteers have a sense of achievement (成就) and learn a lot from their teammates.
As a junior middle school student, I have been a member of “Caring the Senior” club. Now there are many old people living alone for different reasons. Some of them are too old to look after themselves. Along with my teammates, I have cleaned their rooms and beds and washed their clothes with a washing machine. I have also chatted with them, read stories or sung songs to them. One of my teammates has cut their fingernails, too. They are very happy to see us and I’m glad to be with them as well. I’m sure if all of us give our love to others, our country will be more peaceful and harmonious (和谐的).
