Ⅳ. 任务型阅读。
With the increase of population, people need more and more energy to meet their needs. Coal, oil and natural gas are renewable. People have to find other ways to produce electricity. Nuclear power is one of the most important ways. 1
In 1986, an explosion (爆炸) destroyed Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Ukraine. Fifty-six people died at once and more than four thousand people would die from diseases caused by the nuclear pollution.
In 2011, Fukushima Nuclear Power Station in Japan was badly hit by a powerful earthquake. Radiation has spread from damaged reactors (反应堆). Scientists did everything that might be helpful to stop the radiation from continuing spreading.
Why are people so afraid of radiation leak (泄漏)? 2 First, it will cause air pollution. Radioactive elements (放射性物质) can spread with air. We may take them in through our noses and we may also touch them when we are in the open air. Second, it will cause water pollution. 3 We don’t have enough water to drink, to wash and to cook. We may not eat sea food any longer because of radiation in the sea water. Third, it will cause soil pollution. If this happens, we may not drink milk, eat rice, fruit, meat and vegetables. We may die from hunger. 4
5 We should use it properly, so that it can better serve the people.
阅读短文,将方框中的句子还原到文章中,使文章完整 (其中有一项是多余的)。
A. Though nuclear brings us damage (伤害), it has made a great contribution to the production (生产) of electricity.
B. We may be short of fresh water.
C. But it can be very dangerous.
D. Last, we may have all kinds of serious diseases, especially cancer.
E. What kinds of harm will it do to us?
F. And it can use many years.

Good afternoon, everyone! Today pollution has become a serious problem in the world. So far, the air, the seas, the rivers and the land have been polluted by waste or poisonous (有毒的) things. Pollution does great harm not only to human beings but also to animals and plants. We can't have fresh air because many factories send poisonous smoke into the air. Fish die from the polluted water. I hope that scientists can take some steps to solve the serious problems so that pollution can be controlled and air can be cleaned. Only by this means can we keep the balance of nature. That's all. Thank you!
