As I waited for the speech to start, I felt a touch on my shoulder. Looking up, I found a young woman smiling at me, holding a notebook. I 1 at once who she was.
The week before we had shared emails, and I'd told her I would be sitting in the front row. I always sat at the front because I'm 2 and needed to watch the way the speaker's lips(嘴唇) move. “I'm Rosie,” the young woman said. She was the first person I'd ever met who was my age and wore hearing aids. At my school, I was the only person who wore hearing aids. So I was surprised to see Rosie wearing them. She tied her hair back, and didn't try to 3 them like I did.
After the speech, Rosie and I carried on talking. She always remembered to look at me when we talked. I didn't have to worry that she'd 4 away, and I'd miss a joke or statement. We both tried to make communication clear and noticeable. I once 5 that deafness was some kind of weakness but here was Rosie, who was clever, wise, full of fun and deaf. What was the big 6 ?
I felt like a window had opened to my own experience as a deaf person. Partly it was the joy of being able to talk 7 . We discussed noisy social events, or group conversations, where we felt like outsiders. The knowledge that I wasn't the only deaf student at school made the experience feel less lonely.
We continued to share notes on being deaf. Learning to speak up for myself as a deaf person in the workplace was hard. But Rosie was more positive, and she held up a 8 to my own experience, setting a good example for me. Our friendship has become an important part of who I am as well.

答案:
1.A 【解析】根据下文“at once who she was”及“The week before we had shared emails, and I’d told her I would be sitting in the front row”可知,作者之前与Rosie有过邮件往来,并告知了座位,所以作者立刻意识到她就是Rosie。2.C 【解析】根据下文“and needed to watch the way the speaker’s lips move”以及倒数第二段中“my own experience as a deaf person”可知,作者耳聋,需要坐前排看着说话人嘴唇移动来判断其说的内容。3.B 【解析】根据上文“She was the first person...wore hearing aids.”“She tied her hair back, and didn’t try to”可知,Rosie也戴助听器,而且由于她把头发扎到了后面,助听器是露在外面的,她没有像我那样将助听器藏起来。4.D 【解析】根据上下文“She always remembered to look at me when we talked. I didn’t have to worry...I’d miss a joke or statement. We both tried to make communication clear and noticeable.” 5.B 【解析】根据上下文“I once...that deafness was some kind of weakness but here was Rosie, who was clever, wise, full of fun and deaf.” 6.C 【解析】根据上文“I once...but here was Rosie, who was clever, wise, full of fun and deaf.” 此处,“What was the big deal?”意为:有什么大不了的?7.A 【解析】根据上下文“We discussed noisy social events, or group conversations...made the experience feel less lonely.” 8.D 【解析】根据上下文“Learning to speak up for myself as a deaf person in the workplace was hard. But Rosie was more positive, and she held up a...setting a good example for me.”
