Can you see things far away clearly? Nearsighted(近视的) people can't. A new study found
more than 33% of children around the world were nearsighted in 2023. East Asia(东亚) had the
highest rates(比率) of nearsighted children. This may be because kids there often start studying at
2 or 3 years old. This is earlier than other places. Here is what the study shows.

To stop becoming nearsighted, kids should play outside more and spend less time on phones or
computers. If they have to, it's better for them to rest every 20 minutes. These ways can really
help.

范畴:人与自然 主题:河蚌 体裁:说明文 难度:★★★★ 建议用时:7 分钟 评价:___/5
Most of you may think of clams(河蚌) as part of a big meal. But these little things can do a
more important job: testing(检测) the cleanness of people's drinking water!
The main water station in Poland(波兰) gives water to millions of people there. They make
eight clams test the drinking water, because clams have an amazing sense of finding water
pollution. If the water is not clean enough, they close their shells(壳). So, the water station gets
the clams and connects their shells to a computer system. When four or more clams close their
shells at the same time, an alarm will make a sound.
Clams will get used to dirty water in several months, so they only work for three months.
People will get new clams to take over the job. The water station said this could work well to test
water quality.
There's a film on this story, called Fat Kathy. The film shows how wildlife helps people
around the world, said Bored Panda, a leading art and pop culture magazine.
