On Dec. 4, 2024, UNESCO(联合国教科文组织) said the Spring Festival is a world intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产).
The Spring Festival is China's most important traditional festival. UNESCO said it helps bring families and people closer together. China's Foreign Ministry spokesman(外交部发言人) Lin Jian said that it shows the ideas of peace and togetherness. He also advised people to visit China and experience the festival in  person.
Now, about 20 countries have made the first day of the Chinese New Year a public holiday. About 20 percent of people around the world celebrate the Spring Festival in their own ways. The important ideas of the Spring Festival make it not just a Chinese festival, but one for everybody.
On Dec. 5, 2024, the traditional Li textile techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidering(黎族传统纺染织绣技艺) were also added to the list.
So far, our country has 44 traditions on the Intangible Cultural Heritage List. This makes China No. 1 on the list. Such a position comes from our long and rich history. It helps share more stories about Chinese culture with the world.
