A long time ago, there was an official(官员) from the State of Wei(魏国). His name was Pang Gong. He was going to the State of Zhao. Before leaving, Pang felt there was still something he needed to tell the King of Wei.
One day, Pang came to the king and said, "Your Majesty(陛下), if someone says a tiger appeared in the market, would you believe it?" The king said, "You must be joking. How could I believe such a thing? We haven't seen a tiger there for many years."
Pang said, "If two people say there's a tiger, would you believe it?" The king said no. Pang kept on, "What if three people all come and say there's a tiger?" The king said, "Then I would believe it."
Pang said, "Your Majesty, you know that there can't be a tiger in the market. Just because three people say so, you would believe it. I will be away for three years. If some people tell bad stories about me, can you find the truth then?"
After that, Pang left the State of Wei. As soon as he left, many other officials started to tell the king that Pang Gong was a bad official. Three years later, when Pang came back, the king didn't want to meet him because he believed the other officials.
