Some time ago, scientists began making experiments to find out if it would be possible to live under the sea.
A “house” with five rooms was built in a garage workshop and put into the water in the Red Sea. For 29 days, five men lived 40 feet under water. When they went back to the land, these men said they felt easy in breathing and had seen many interesting things. The leader of the team, Commander Barton, said it was possible to make use of the seabed (海床). He said that, if long-time stations were set up under the sea, underwater farms could provide food for the world. The population of the world have been growing faster and faster.
In much deeper water, two more divers (潜水员) stayed for weeks in a smaller “house”. The divers in the “house” spent most of their time searching the sea. Four times they went down to 360 feet deep and observed many strange sea life. Some animals had never been seen before. It is possible to move rapidly under water in a special box. During their stay, Commander
Barton and the other divers reached 1,000 feet under water and found hundreds of millions of crabs.
