If you feel that making friends as a kid is easy, you're right. “They have a break between lessons and gym classes. They have more time to get along with each other,”says Marisa G. Franco,an expert at the University of Maryland. However,it's not the case for adults. Even though they see their workmates every day, they still find it never easy to be friends with them.
In the US,for example,a 2021 study by the American Enterprise Institute, found that the number of adults who said they had no close friends had increased four times since 1990,going from 3 percent to 12 percent. “We've never been more disconnected,”says psychologist(心理学家)Jody Carrington. Although adults spend time together from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and even late into the night, the busy work pattern means that communication is limited to the content of the work, and after work, they immediately go back home, leaving no extra energy to have unplanned communication to develop further friendship.
Research by Brigham Young University psychologist Julianne Holt - Lunstad has shown that loneliness is a big threat(威胁)to long life, the same as smoking 15 cigarettes a day or being a heavy drinker. People who are lonely are more likely to have serious diseases. On the other side, healthy friendships can help us a lot, doing better with stress and living happier and longer. Besides, happiness is contagious. Harvard experts found that when a person becomes happy, his or her friends living within 1.6 kilometres are also 25 percent more likely to become happier.
So,making friends is more important than we think. You may think that making friends is an inborn skill and doesn't need to be taught. It's not the case. We can improve our ability to connect with others if we try. Some experts provide advice to make it easier to find connection.

根据第二段中的“Although adults spend time together from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and even late into the night, the busy work ... after work, they immediately go back home, leaving no extra energy to have unplanned communication to develop further friendship.”
根据第三段“...loneliness is a big threat(威胁) to long life, the same as smoking 15 cigarettes a day or being a heavy drinker. People who are lonely are more likely to have serious diseases. On the other side, healthy friendships can help us a lot, doing better with stress and living happier and longer.”
根据画线词后面一句“Harvard experts found that when a person becomes happy, his or her friends living within 1.6 kilometres are also 25 percent more likely to become happier.”
根据最后一段最后一句“Some experts provide advice to make it easier to find connection.”
