二、阅读理解。
Five years ago, when my father was dying, I travelled a thousand miles from home to be with him in his last days. I felt very sad and it was one of the most difficult times in my life. After he died, I sat alone in his flat. I felt lonely and I hated the silence(寂静) of the flat.
But one evening the silence was broken: I heard crying outside. I opened the door and found a little cat on the steps(台阶). He was thin and poor. He looked the way I felt. I brought him inside and fed him fish. He ate it and then fell asleep quickly.
The next morning I checked with neighbours and learned that the cat's owner had moved away and left him here, so the little cat was all alone, just as I was. When I walked back to the flat, I was thinking about what to do with him. I was too busy to take care of something else. But when I opened the flat door, he ran to me and jumped into my arms. I was sure he didn't want to go anywhere. I started calling him Willis to remember my father's best friend.
From then on, everything became easier. With Willis on my knees, time seemed to go much faster. When it was time for me to go back home, I had to decide what to do about Willis. This time, I found that I could not leave without him.
Some people said that how nice I was to the cat. But I know that we saved each other. I might give him a home but he gave me something greater.
