C 阅读理解 全文翻译
主题范畴:人与自然(环境保护) 语篇类型:说明文 词数:233 难度:★★★☆☆ 建议用时:7分钟 参考答案:P211
All over the world, temperatures are going up at night because of global warming (全球变暖). A study found that when the temperature at night is over 30 ℃, the length of nightly sleep becomes shorter by over 14 minutes. This may not seem like a lot at first, but it means that each person loses 44 hours of sleep every year.

When people are short of sleep, their immune systems (免疫系统) become weak. They get sick and forgetful, and there is even a higher risk of serious illnesses like cancer. Not getting enough sleep at night can also create an unsafe environment during the day. Those who drive to work may cause more accidents if they are not well rested.
Unluckily, women, the elderly, and the poor are most influenced (影响) by rising temperatures. Women’s bodies cool quicker in the evening than men’s when going to sleep, so they feel hot sooner. Older people usually sleep less because they have poor body temperature control, so sleeping in high temperatures is a real problem. In poor areas, people don’t have enough money to buy fans or air conditioners (空调). So they don’t have any way to lower the temperatures in their bedrooms.
As the global warming trend is continuing, we may lose more sleep time in the future. So protecting the environment is protecting ourselves.
