Do you know how to cook? Do you have cooking courses (课程) at school? Students in Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu do. The cooking course started on May 8th and turned out to be very popular among students.
Each week, ten teachers will show the students how to cook two dishes. When the eight-week course is over, each student will be able to cook 16 dishes. At the end of the term, there will be a test. The students will cook in front of their teachers and the food will be scored (评分) by how it looks, smells and tastes. If they pass the test, they will get two credits (学分).
Yu Yangzhou is in charge of (负责) the cooking course. He said, “We set up the course because we found that most students could not cook for themselves. They often order takeaway food. It is not good for their health. We hope this course could teach them some basic life skills.” Also, students can learn much about Chinese food culture and good table manners (礼仪) at the course.
“I'm the only child in my family and I hardly cook,” one of the students named Zhang Hua said. “I learn how to cook from the course. Now my parents are pleased with my cooking skills.”
